It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
